The debut of Pro Stock at Benaraby Raceway sees a small four car field heading to central Queensland in the first time ANDRA has run rounds of its professional series simultaneously across two tracks.
With a lack of numbers for the regional track, Barbagallo said the category needs to support venues that are putting on rounds.
“Look, I’ve been around the Pro Stock category now for quite some time,” he said. “It’s important to be at these events and meet the promoters and most importantly the fans. “If we want to increase our fan base we need to be racing in these areas way more often. I’m sure the cars that have made a big effort to be there will put on a great show for Central Queensland.”
Aside from an excuse to get out on track, Barbagallo sees this event as an ideal opportunity to promote the sport and the Pro Stock bracket in an area largely patronised by grass roots racers and fans.
“I haven’t been to Benaraby before, but I have lots of customers who race there and I am very excited to come to Central Queensland with our Pro Stock Cars,” he said. “I’m hoping to see safe racing with numbers early being very quick.”
The excitement Barbagallo shows for the Benaraby Nationals is infectious as he gears up to face his mates Aaron and Tyronne Tremayne who are attempting to close in on the ANDRA Drag Racing Series title.
“Aaron and Tyronne are great racers and friends of mine,” he said.
“Their heart and soul are into this category. The best thing about them guys running fast is that it has lit a fire in my belly. Now I have a goal again, to go faster!”
The Benaraby Nationals featuring Pro Stock and the Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship will rock Benaraby Raceway in Gladstone on October 3-4, 2014.
