Following the success of 2010’s Eighth Mile Series, organisers are pleased to announce the series will continue in 2011 complete with a new naming rights sponsor.
The 2011 Queensland Street Car Magazine Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series will take in Willowbank Raceway, Warwick Dragway, Benaraby Dragway and Ironbark Raceway between February and September of 2011, in a three-round plus a final Series structure.
Taking part in the events will be RD Williams Excavator Parts Modified, JP Racing Super Sedan, John William Super Street, Diamond T Products Junior Dragster, FG Loy & Sons Earthmoving Classic and Queensland Nameplate Group Modified Bike competitors.
Series founder John Winterburn said he expected approximately 500 competitors to take part in the event by the time the Grand Final was run and won.
“In 2010 for our inaugural season, we were blown away with the level of interest in the events with approximately 100 competitors at each event,” said Winterburn.
“In 2011, we expect the numbers of competitors per event to grow by around 25 percent by the time the series comes to an end in September.
“Eighth mile racing is all about providing a race meet where competitors can enjoy themselves, have fun, and race in a well-run yet relaxed environment with their fellow racers, friends and family.
“We received a resounding thumbs up from the racers in that regard last year and we will certainly be continuing to build on that this year.”
