Australian Top Fuel Motorcycle National Record holder and multiple champion Chris Matheson has won the Westernationals held last weekend at Perth’s Kwinana Motorplex.
Matheson ran a 6.38 at 220mph defeating Greg Durack’s 7.45 at 178mph.
“It was a good result, and the team really put in the work – despite very hot humid conditions.” said Matheson after temperatures climbed into the 40 degree range.
Matheson travelled back to Perth after taking in the Australian Nationals at Calder Park to finish of the Nitro Thunder event, which was rained out last December. However the Nitro Voodoo machine smoked the rear tyre in his losing to Mark Drew’s quick 6.45 ET.
“Despite the day one loss, it was another opportunity to gather data for the bike and its new combination,” said Matheson. “We backed the bike down for the second day of racing which enabled us to run 6.56, 6.66 and a 6.38 in the final, despite the hot conditions.” Matheson commented on winning the Top Bike exhibition class at the same event.
“We return to Perth in a few weeks for a double round at the Nitro Max, 400 Thunder series, where we hope to improve on our track PB of 6.12 set a couple of years back,” he said.
“I want to say thanks to all the officials, volunteers and track staff that made the event a good one. As usual the track was good and we look forward to the next round of racing in early March.”
Chris Matheson also thanks all his sponser and supporters; GT Radiators & Machining, WebCam, Rocket Industries, CRC Industries, PDS Graphics, Kitten Car Care Products, Worldwide Bearings, BlackAdda, Hi-Side Leathers, Boninfante Friction Inc. Special thanks to Steve and Larry McBride.
