Willowbank Raceway gets busy

Willowbank Raceway will be a constant hub of activity over the coming months, with Nostalgia, Pro Street, Sportsman, Top Fuel, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle racers all set to head to Queensland’s premier drag strip.

While surrounding areas of the Raceway including the city of Ipswich were hard hit by the recent flooding, the track escaped damage asides from some water-logging around the facilities and all roads to the facility are now restored to full operation.

Kicking off the action in February will be a round of the Nostalgia Drag Racing Series on February 19, followed by the opening round of the 2011 Queensland Street Car Magazine Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series on February 26.

March will follow quickly with the return of the Pro Street Shootout on March 12, before ANDRA Pro Series drag racing hits the Ipswich quarter-mile across March 25 and 26, bringing with it Top Fuel, Top Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle action.

April will then get underway with the all-new Queensland Auto Spectacular, to be held at Willowbank Raceway on April 10. All the while, test and tune events, bracket events and street series events will be run as usual, seeing Willowbank Raceway a hub of constant activity.

Managing Director Steve Bettes said he couldn’t be happier to be preparing for all manner of racers to head to the Ipswich drag strip in the coming months.

“January was a difficult time for Ipswich, and the whole of Queensland,” said Bettes.

“We were forced to abandon round one of our New Year Series on its second day, and then cancel round two before we even got to the race track due to the wet weather after consulting with the weather forecasters about what was to come – but even then we didn’t imagine what was on its way.

“Many of our racers, officials, and staff have been personally affected by the floods in the local area, with some losing everything, and to this day they continue to work towards regaining normalcy after such a catastrophic event.

“While the past month has been hard, I believe we need to look forward and the community spirit to move on and prosper is strong, and it is with this in mind, that I am excited to look at the calendar ahead and see Willowbank Raceway coming back to life, and hopefully providing some fun and entertainment in the coming months.”
