GoPro cameras are built tough, but it’s a pretty impressive feat of electronics to launch one in a supercharger explosion and have it still working at the end!
Geoff Gradden’s Saratoga slammer was had a blower backfire just before the 1000 feet mark, travelling at about 225mph during qualifying for the Nitro Champs event at Sydney Dragway. The burst panel explosion launched the camera off the roof and it landed near the finish line gate about a hundred metres away.
“Amazingly, the camera still works 100%,” Gradden said.
It wasn’t the only spectacular moment the video captured, as it also shows Frank Mamone hitting the wall in the left hand lane. Drag racing is certainly a wild, wild sport.
