Formerly retired pro racer Grant O’Rourke will return to the drag strip to be a special guest at Springmount Raceway’s Thunder in the Tropics event this weekend (October 1).
O’Rourke will take part in the Pro Slammer match race to be held at the event – the last major competitive event for the venue for the 2016 season after its opening in March of this year.
The O’Rourke Motorsport Top Doorslammer – which took out second in the ANDRA championship and third in the 400 Thunder title earlier this year – will take on fellow Queenslander Jason Donnelly in a match-race for the fans. Donnelly will be racing his 1957 Chevy Nomad.
Joining them on-track will be competitive racing for the professional Pro Stock and Pro Bike brackets, as well as plenty of action from the Sportsman categories.
“The launch of Springmount Raceway earlier this year was a great thing for drag racing and particularly for North Queensland, and so when I received the invitation to race at their last major event of 2016 I couldn’t say no,” said O’Rourke.
“It is my honour and pleasure to support the management of Springmount Raceway in their last big hurrah for the year, which will also be their biggest event so far, and I can’t wait to see what they have in store for 2017.
“This weekend is sure to be an exciting day out at the track for all – not only will you have a Pro Slammer match race but also national championship racing for Pro Stock and Pro Bike, as well as plenty of local and travelling sportsman racers putting it all on the line for their own national title chances.
“It is going to be a great day for all the family, and I can’t wait to put on a show for the fans.”
The Thunder in the Tropics event will be held on Saturday October 1, 2016, at Springmount Raceway.
