The USA’s Glenn Mikres will return to the Australian Top Fuel scene at the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals when he calls the shots as crew chief on Rachelle Splatt’s dragster.
With duties back home making it difficult for Splatt’s recent US-based tuner Ron Douglas to commit, she put a call in to long time friend Glenn Mikres, requesting his tuning talents.
The pair first met when Splatt raced in the USA in 1994 where she became the first woman in the world to run over 300mph. Mikres and his family gave Splatt a base in the USA and became good friends.
While he spent his time tour guiding for Splatt then, Mikres will now be guiding the team in the ways of Top Fuel at the Winternationals.
“Glenn has so much experience in Top Fuel and knows what it takes to get one of these awesome cars down Australian tracks,” she said. “His experience will be a great asset to my young team and the guys are really looking forward to learning from his experience.”
Event sponsor Gulf Western Oil have also backed Splatt’s efforts, with new livery alongside of Century Yuasa Batteries and OVO Mobile.
“One thing that really excites me is that after being out of the sport for more than 10 years I am back competing at the 50th Winternationals, with the event sponsor Gulf Western Oil supporting my return to Willowbank Raceway,” she said.
