The Mactrack Westernationals will receive an exciting dose of international Pro Slammer action care of Team Bray Racing on March 3 and 4, with Texan Pro Mod legend Frankie Taylor to drive for the team.
Taylor, not to be confused with WA’s own Frank Taylor, will be the first international driver to ever compete in Pro Slammer at Perth Motorplex when he drives underneath the bridge in the Gulf Western Oil Corvette.
“I am really excited to get to the Motorplex for the MacTrack Westernationals – I hear that the track is world class and I can’t wait to have the chance to find out for myself,” he said.
Taylor has already proved a powerhouse figure in the 2017/18 400 Thunder Pro Slammer Championship, winning the East Coast Thunder event at Sydney Dragway and sitting third in the points.
The 2010 American Drag Racing League Pro Mod champion knows that to ascend any higher in the series, he will have to take on and beat ten times Pro Slammer champion John Zappia at his home track, territory Zappia will be fiercely defending.
There is certainly some rivalry between the pair, with Zappia recently claiming Taylor’s title of the quickest supercharged sedan driver in the world during a US tour in the Australian off season.
“Obviously Perth is also the home turf of the local hero, John Zappia. I am looking forward to taking him on in his own stomping ground and seeing what we can do,” Taylor said.
“At the end of the day, an all-Team Bray Racing final, me versus Benny, is the ultimate goal – but we will have to deal with Zap first!”
Taylor is a career drag racer who has raced across the world, from the many strips in his own backyard to the Middle East where he was runner up in the Arabian Drag Racing League Championship three times.
“All we do is drag race, we don’t have time for other hobbies,” he laughed.
“I drag race and I own an automotive shop so if we are not racing, we are in the shop.
“That love of racing started pretty early with my brother and I, we ran street rods when we were in our late teens and then I guess the rest is history.
“At the end of the day, we are always just out there enjoying having fast cars and trying to be the fastest.”
The MacTrack Westernationals Pro Slammer field is shaping up to be one of the all time greats at Perth Motorplex, with the long awaited arrival of Paul Mouhayet and the Moits Racing team to the west. As the current 400 Thunder points leaders, they will come to Perth ready to show John Zappia a thing or two!
