A very busy March for Team Bray Racing continues this weekend with Ben Bray set to tackle the Honeywell Garrett Sydney Jamboree in his Gulf Western Oil-supported Toyota Solara.
“Sport Compact racing is really something close to my heart, I am very excited to get out there on Saturday (17 March) and continue the development of the Solara and hopefully put on a good show for the fans in the process,” Ben said.
“While a lot of people know TBR best for our Doorslammers and their 4000hp supercharged Hemis, there is a whole other side to our outfit which specialises in the 3000hp turbocharged hi-tech late model machinery of the sport compact world. We are really proud of that, because not only does it mean we get to race and represent our sponsors on a variety of stages, we also get to entertain a whole other market of fans as well in the process.
“As they always do, our valued supporter Gulf Western Oil will be bringing guests along to the event and I am really looking forward to showing off to these TBR new-comers what we can do and how the Gulf Western products really span the full complement of our activities.”
Fans both in the pit area and in the stands should expect a great show at the Sydney Jamboree, with a lot of development work having gone into the Solara of late.
“Our tuner Justin Simpson, owner of Horsepower Solutions, has been working really hard with us and we really appreciate all of his efforts, especially over the recent the lead-up to develop the car and its Haltech Elite 2500 Engine Management System,” Ben explained.
“Haltech have been on board with my sport compact racing ever since my very first MR 1200 project car – that little orange ute was a great start to what has been a very valuable relationship and I can’t thank them enough for their support.
“I am also lucky enough to have Honeywell Garrett helping us out with the ‘best of them all’ – a Gen 2 GTX 55 turbocharger – I can’t wait to get it up on boost and screaming down the Sydney drag strip.
“This event is not just about racing, it is a complete show with so much to see on and off the track from drifting, sound offs, show ‘n’ shines and bikini competitions to the best of the best sport compact vehicles.
“As a one-day with more than 160 cars signed up – including 12 in our Factory Xtreme bracket, it is going to be huge! My pit buddy Rod Harvey and I are really looking forward to it, and to make sure that we make the most of it, we will be down there at Sydney Dragway testing the night before as well.
“Hopefully we can put on a blazing show for all the fans – they always come out in droves for these events and I expect this weekend to be no different!”
The Jamboree concept was established in 1991 by a group of drag racing enthusiasts from the Volkswagen Drivers Club of Queensland. Over the years, the Jamboree has established itself as the premier event on the calendar of small car enthusiasts with a bursting entertainment program both on and off the track. In 2004, its growth was such that the concept was expanded outside of its Queensland home at Willowbank Raceway into New South Wales, with the introduction of the Compak Attack event, which is today known as the Sydney Jamboree.
