The Porters Racing team has had some time away from the race track in the past season or two, but the family team is happy to say they are making the trip to Willowbank Raceway for the 51st Gulf Western Oils Winternationals, and they aren’t coming just to make up the numbers.
“This is the 18th Winternationals event we will have competed in, with 11 of these years in the very competitive Pro Stock category,” said team owner Paul Porter.
“Unfortunately we weren’t in a position to do all rounds throughout the season, but will be treating this round very seriously with the aim of winning a 400 Thunder Gold Christmas Tree.“
The team from Mackay, North Queensland have been bustling to prepare their Ford Mustang for Wintenationals duties.
“Since the January round at Willowbank, the car has been totally pulled apart from top to tail,” said driver Scott Porter.
“The engine has been fully refreshed and John Barbagallo has worked around the clock extracting every little bit of horsepower out of this engine. We originally intended to debut our new JB engine at this meeting, but with fuel changes on the horizon, decided to work with our number two engine – but with many changes.
“A huge effort has gone into the clutch, transmission and chassis, so the team is looking to find a baseline early at the Winters Warm Up with the refreshed set up and extra horsepower.”
