WINTER WARMUPS DAY 1: Maclean quickest ever

Pro Slammer has been shaken up with Scott Maclean dropping the categories quickest ever pass on day one of the Winter Warmups – 5.572.

U.S. crew chief Darren Mayer was understated saying it was a “good day” after ther 5.572 252mph run. Maclean had been teasing a breakout performance at recent events after running deep into the 60s.

Paul Mouhayet was also on point in the Moits Racing Mustang with a 5.61 of his own. With Maclean now taking his mantle of the quickest of all time ahead of Mouhayet’s 5.58, the Sydneysider was quick to congratulate Maclean, “Boom! Couldn’t have happened to a better bunch of guys,” he said.

Also in Pro Slammer testing of note, Sam Fenech clocked a 5.86 in the App Shop Camaro, Gary Phillips 5.76, Andrew Searle 6.001 and Jason Donnelly in the Nomad with a 6.17.

In Pro Alcohol Luke Marsden was on point in the funny car with killer consistency 5.71, 5.60 and a 5.59 to close out their day.

Wayne Price was on it with a 5.54, Darren Fry ran 5.77 in the funny car, and Russell Mills was best of the rest with a 5.99.

Last 400 Thunder Pro Stock event winner Wayne Daley dropped into the sixes with a 6.97 at 191mph, the only one of the Pro Stock attendees to make a full pull.

Nothing quick in Pro Bike with Andrew Badcock the only racer on track running a couple of 7.70s, and Chris Matheson shut off with an 8 second pass for the fuel scooters.

That wraps up the highlights from the professional categories.

A few other runs of note saw Archie Kajewski turn the beast mode dial up on the Mazfix Mazda6 with a cracking 6.35 PB from the 20B Rotary and Collin Willshire run 6.55 in his new look Factory Xtreme Eclipse.

And plenty of record bombing is expected in the index classes which included Jason Simpson’s new Probe belting out a G/GA sub-record 8.12 at 165mph.
