The 2018 Gulf Western Oil Winternationals Warm Up continued on Sunday June 3, with Gary Phillips in his Pro Alcohol Funny Car having the run of the day with a 5.403/265mph, bouncing back from a disappointing Nitro Thunder event.
Darren Fry had his funny car dialled in with a 5.61 and 5.63, likewise Luke Marsden continues to kill it with consistency, backing up yesterday’s runs with a 5.64.
John Cannuli is still looking for that record setting performance after some time away from the track with a 6.12 on his only shot for the day.
Greg Clayton had his Pro Alcohol altered out with a 6.34 best.
A fan favourite will surely be Trevor Smith in Pro Slammer, the Kiwi travelled across the ditch with his HQ Statesman Pro Slammer with the assistance of Team Bray.
“I’ve been to watch the Winternationals a few times and to race there has been on my bucket list for a long time,” said Smith.
Unfortunately gremlins with the new Hemi combination have been causing havoc, preventing a representative run, but with Team Bray in their corner they will get it sorted before next weekend.

A 5.72 and a 5.74 from Steve Ham’s Pro Slammer Camaro has that team primed for a great event.
A 5.73 personal best backed up with a 5.78 also has the JSS Racing App Shop Camaro of Sam Fenech hunting big name scalps come racing.
Russell Pavey couldn’t settle down his Corvette leaving the line with a couple of wild wheelstanding launches.
In Pro Stock, Aaron Tremayne fired his first and only quarter mile shot for the Warmu Ups and hit a 6.945 at 197mph.
Wayne Daley and Jason Hedges both posted 7.02 ETs, Scott Porter went 7.19 and Brian Pursell only managed a 7.37.
Not a lot happened for the two wheel professional divisions, as Daniel Rabnott rattled off a couple of 7.53s in Pro Bike, and Gavin Spann was the best from the nitro variation with a 7.78.
The 51st Gulf Western Oil Winternationals start this Thursday with sportsman qualifying, wrapping up on Sunday.
