Rod Harvey will officially debut his new Rick Jones-built Toyota Camry race car at the upcoming Brisbane Jamboree at Willowbank Raceway.

The local debut will come ahead of a trip to the United States, where Harvey will race at two prestigious events at Orlando Speed World – the World Sports Compact Challenge (October 26-28) and the World Sports Compact Finals (December 3-4).

Harvey will be part of an Australian contingent heading over to Orlando, alongside Collin Willshire, Kelly Bettes, Nikki Hepburn, Scott Porter and Archie Kajewski.

The Kiwi’s new car was the first ever to run a 3.6 second ET to the eighth mile in pro-nitrous trim, and is 200 pounds lighter than Rod’s well-known Toyota Celica.

“We are very excited to debut the new car at the Brisbane Jamboree before we head over to Orlando,” Rod Harvey said.

“Built in 2014, the new car is a lot lighter than our current car and has an impressive history behind it. The new car will also benefit from some of our own history, with the engine and driveline from our beloved Celica to be transferred to the Camry ahead of its debut.

“The Celica has certainly served us well over the years – she was the first ever Factory Xtreme/Sport Compact car to run a five-second (5.909s) pass in Australasia at the Gulf Western Oil Winternationals just last year and is also the third fastest Sport Compact in the world when it comes to mile per hour (253mph).

“However, as she has aged she is no longer designed to run as fast as we currently are and the weight is also becoming an issue against some of our competitors. With her engine and driveline going into the lighter and newer Camry, I think we are going to have a really powerful combination.

“We are very excited to see what we can do in the new car, especially at the World Sports Compact Challenge and Finals in Orlando!”
