With Grudge Kings at Sydney Dragway only a few days away, testing has been ferocious with a number of world records smashed.
Grudge Kings will see 32 of the baddest cars in the country shoot out for $50,000 on July 14, along with a host of other classes full of mental machines.
While record performances are not the aim in the Grudge Kings event itself, they are a consequence of racers aiming up and getting serious ahead of the event.
The outright war for the quickest street R32 GT-R in the world rages on with Anthony Maatouk in KING32 starting to gap the contenders, with eyes now on the first six second pass from a street legal GT-R. Maatouk came perilously close with a 7.007 and nearly double tonned with a 199mph top end.
Also out of the Maatouk camp comes METRO, now the world’s quickest R32 GT-R, blasting a 6.93 at 203mph. All on 275 radials – no slicks here.
Chasing the Maatouk cars is Rob Marjan in JUNII. Pushing the limits of his GT-R has seen a world class 7.25 but chute problems have seen the car head into the sand trap a couple of times, causing a few beat up panels.
Mario Rehayem continues to rotate the world in his billet 13B Starlet from PAC Performance, resetting his own world record for an automatic equipped 13B to a 7.19 at 186mph – scary stuff in such a short wheelbase.
Still with the RB powered machines, and the TRP Racing 300ZX delivered again with a 6.60 at 220mph – becoming the quickest and fastest RB powered car in the world.
Brendon Luke ripped a 6.49 at 206mph with his Procharged altered.
It is the radial life for John Elfes now. He sent his VX Commodore into the sevens for the first time with a 7.91 a 176mph.
Mirko Peric sends it!
How about a 9.74 out of a naturally aspirated Holden 202 cubic inch six banger? Tough as hell!
The cold temperatures will be a tester as a few have found out, battling adhesion in the colder parts of the day.
Frank Cannistra has stepped up with a new Mazda RX3.
