Confident off the back of a podium place in the Motorplex season opener, Maurice Brennan went to last weekend’s ANDRA Pro Series Top Doorslammer round at the Perth Motorplex ready for a good performance.
But the world’s quickest Commodore cowered back into last season’s mysterious ways, serving the Boomeracing team a fistful of unforeseen electrical challenges that left a heartbroken Brennan out of the eight car qualifying field yet again.
“I know it’s impossible for us to go back to last year’s nightmares, because we’ve fixed so many issues that were giving us grief, but right now it feels like last season again,” said Brennan, devastated more for his family, crew and sponsors then he was for himself.
Team tuning advisor John McGrath said that the Joondalup Carpet Court/Crown Integrated backed Commodore was throwing some curve balls at the team, defying the set up of the car the dream runs the team deserved.
However, Brennan was quick to defend his hard working crew despite the disappointing results.
“We lost a lot of time trying to solve an electrical issue between rounds and the guys worked like machines together to solve the problem. We thought our biggest challenge would be getting the car set up right for its first runs with the full Doorslammer blower overdrive, but that was the least of our issues,” he said.
Regardless, Brennan is confident that the team were well and truly on the warpath to the form that earned them national speed and elapsed time records for the fiercely competitive AA/AP class.
“The toughest part of drag racing compared to other motorsports is that if something doesn’t go to plan on the track, you don’t have any time to recover and get back in the race. But we’re winning in the pits and we’re winning back in the workshop as well, after Jeff Famlonga totally transformed our facility. Famlonga Building Contractors have been phenomenal,” an optimistic Brennan said, looking forward to the team’s next outing, as part of the ANDRA Pro Series Top Fuel Championship.
