Those familiar with the Heathcote Park Boxing Day Challenge will be pleased to hear that there is a brand new surface waiting to test the mettle of Victorian Drag Racers, with 420 feet of freshly laid concrete stretching out from the startline to offer superior traction and lightning quick launches.

The Boxing Day Challenge is one of the largest events on the Heathcote Park annual calendar and attracts a competitive field of almost 150 cars and bikes. As a DYO or dial-your-own race day, the competition is wide open and literally anyone in attendance can walk away with the top prize. Action will kick off at 11am on Monday December 26 running throughout the day with 3 brackets of racing.

This year’s event will offer a substantial prize purse of more than $6500.00 !

“Increasing the prize purse in recent years has been one of the more popular things we’ve done,” said Russell Clarke, venue owner. “I think people can see that we’re doing the right thing by them and providing them withsome fun at a pretty low cost.

There’s always a huge range of people, cars and bikes at the venue for the Boxing Day event, it’s become an institution for Victorian Drag Racers who enjoy getting out and racing during the festive season. Spectators can expect everything from Model T Hot Rods to the latest high-tech turbo cars, all eager to test their limits and see if the new Heathcote Park Strip can be tamed !

A Burnout Comp has also been scheduled for Boxing Day. The Liqui Moly Burnout Pad has been extended recently, adding almost 20% more surface area and a 25m concrete runway as a lead-in to what is one of the largest permanent pads in the country.

“This allows the cars to generate a little more speed before all the sideways action starts, it’s a lot more spectacular to watch and far more entertaining for the fans,” says Clarke.

Trade stalls booked in advance are available FREE OF CHARGE to encourage a real diversity amongst the offerings, those wishing to participate need only pay the standard spectator admission price, a limited number of powered sites are available for a small fee.

Tickets and race registrations are available on the day with gates opening at 8.30am. More information is available from the Heathcote Park website: www.heathcoteraceway.com.au
