The Sunraysia Drag Racing Association is gearing up to host the Chicago Shootout Comp Day at the Sunset Strip on Saturday November 13.
Featuring racing from Supercharged Outlaws, Fast Sedan, Modified, Super Street, Modified Bike, Junior Dragster and Street Car brackets, the event is sure to be full of entertainment for racers and spectators alike.
SDRA President, Kingsley Kuchel, said this event is all about giving Victorian racers and fans a chance to get out and have fun.
“Just about all of Victoria’s racers have not been able to compete in anything since early to mid this year and many have been having no racing fun at all,” Kuchel said.
“This event gives everyone the perfect opportunity to not only get their machines out of the shed and back onto a race track, but also the opportunity to run under competition settings but without being put onto the trailer after round one.
“We also have a test and tune bracket for anyone that doesn’t want to run in a bracket or needs to do licensing.
“With so many of our events canned because of COVID-19, we really need events like this to work as our morale within the club has really suffered with us trying to run so many events only to have them continually cancelled.
“We have cancelled 18 of 22 events since March 2020 and all because of COVID-19. This situation has certainly made it hard for us financially and mentally, but we are not giving up!”
Current Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series Competition Bike national champion Levi Addison is one of a host racers who has already signed up for the event.
“I’m excited for this event! I can’t wait to be back racing and the Chicago Shootout is always a good format as we get plenty of track time,” Addison said.
“I always race to win, but just getting a feel for the bike again after so much time off is our main plan for this event.
“I am super keen to be back racing, we haven’t raced since the last round of the Series at Mildura early this year. In the past 12 months I think we have only been able to race twice, so we are hanging to get back out there.
“I will also have a special guest as this event – my wife and I welcome a baby boy recently and he will be just under four months old at the time of this event. I can’t wait for my little man to be at his first race!
“We are going to be doing pretty much everything the same as usual for this event, we have some big things on the way in the near future, but they won’t be ready for this event.
“I would like to thank my family, crew and sponsors for their support as we look forward to getting back onto the track: Addison Memorials, Motoshack, The Collective Family, Harley Heaven, Eastside MMC & K Rock Automotive.”
The Chicago Shootout Comp Day at Mildura’s Sunset Strip will be held from 5.00pm to 11.00pm on Saturday, November 13. Entry for spectators is just $5.00, while all patrons aged 17 and under can gain entry free of charge.
