Final preparations are underway at Willowbank Raceway with only two days to go until the Gulf Western Oil Super Thunder on April 8-9.
Fans will be greeted each night with show-stopping racing from all professional categories, that now includes Top Fuel Funny Car – who will be making their debut for 400 Thunder. In addition, over a dozen sportsman categories will not only be putting on a show for the fans but also chasing that elusive Gold Christmas Tree awarded to the category winners.
“Super Thunder is a short sharp action packed program made to deliver you bulk entertainment in a fast paced package,” said 400 Thunder General Manager Steve Bettes.
“It is shaping up to be an outstanding event with the match race debut of the Morice McMillin Aeroflow Performance and Adam Murrihy Nitro Feak Top Fuel Funny Cars, plus Pro Alcohol, Pro Slammer, IHRA Pro Mod, Pro Stock, and exhibition passes from Top Fuel Bike and Pro Stock Motorcycle.”
Super Thunder will act as a lead in to the fast approaching Gulf Western Oil Winternationals in June.
“The Gulf Western Oil Super Thunder event features an amazing show, and a snippet of what we can expect at the upcoming world renowned Winternationals in June – which has over 200 entries already, and with just eight weeks to go for final entries to come in, the Winternationals should not be missed,” said Bettes.
Following the Thursday test day, Friday will kick off with the sportsman categories at 5.00pm, with Top Fuel Funny Cars doing their first sighting run at 6.07pm. Following them will be all the other professional categories, and once again the Funny Cars will have a chance to accumulate data for race day when they close out the evening program.
Action will start again on Saturday afternoon at 12.30pm with a fully packed race schedule running into the night, and providing the perfect atmosphere to see the nitro burning monsters in full swing from 4.00pm.
Aeroflow Top Fuel Funny Car Racer Morice McMillin said recently “These cars are truly beasts, with an estimated 10,000 horsepower on hand and 0-500km/h in less than 5 seconds, and the key to these cars is the team back in the pits. It’s a spectacle just watching the boys work together getting these cars apart and back together between rounds, it’s a well-organized procedure and everyone knows their roles.”
In an update to the 400 Thunder Championship Series, all events that have run as part of the current season through until the 2023 Winternationals, are now part of the Super Season 2.0. Racers will be eager to put early points on the board from a potential 12 championship rounds, resulting in an exciting day of racing for the spectators.
Spectator tickets for the Gulf Western Oil Super Thunder are now available at www.willowbankraceway.com.au with tickets starting at just $35.00 for adults, and $25.00 for student/concession card holders with ID, while children aged 13 and under are free.
