This Thursday and Friday (September 1/2) the largest drag racing event ever seen in Alice Springs will descend on Alice Springs Inland Dragway (ASID) to kick off the Red CentreNATS festival.
Six 12,000+hp nitro-powered Top Fuel Dragsters will be joined by a field of the popular Top Doorslammers and more than a hundred Heavy Hitter sportsman racers for two huge days and nights of drag racing action at ASID.
It will be the first time ASID has seen Top Fuel action since 2017, and the first time it has hosted a championship round for the category with the fastest race cars on the planet.
Red CentreNATS hosts Round 01 of the second season of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship. It is also Round 02 of the Top Doorslammer Australian Drag Racing Championship, and the 3500hp/400kph supercharged sedans are always a fan favourite.
“We’re expecting bumper crowds across all four days,” said Red CentreNATS event promoter and Top Fuel promoter, Andy Lopez. “We’re taking drag racing to the absolute next level this year with the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship and the ADRC Top Doorslammers joining the Heavy Hitter action. There’s so much top shelf drag racing that we’ve had to extend Red CentreNATS to four days so we could fit it all in.”
All the superstars of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship will be in the centre of Australia: two-time and reigning champion Peter Xiberras, former champions Phil Lamattina, Phil Read, Damien Harris and Wayne Newby, and series newcomer Shane Olive, who secured his first Top Fuel win during last season’s round four.
Also set to impress are eleven-time Doorslammer champion John Zappia, Round 01 ADRC Top Doorslammer winner Kelvin Lyle, NT racing star Matt Abel and 2021/2022 grand final runner-up, Mark Chapman.
