Nitro flames lit up the night sky at the spectacular Spring Mount Raceway near Cairns recently for the return of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars, supported by the 400 Thunder Sportsman racers.
Rick Gauci was back in the seat of Nitro Express but it was Josh Leahy in Bandit that took down the OG with a 5.83 to be the one to beat after round one, with wins also going to King Kong, Stormtrooper and Terminator.
Justin Walshe in Terminator knocked up back to back wins with a 5.98 over Paul Messineo in Dark Horse to start off round two. Likewise Stormtrooper with Greg Leahy behind the butterflies went two for two, defeating a peddling One Bad Kiwi. Bandit also remained perfect thanks to a solo, and Nitro Express returned to form with a 5.82 win over King Kong.
The conditions were tricky for both air and track, producing a wild, but entertaining final round that saw the win light to Greg Leahy in Stormtrooper after dominating Terminator. The Bandit Josh Leahy joined his father on the podium with an impressive 5.71 to knock off third spot..
