The Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Show is bringing a huge field of 12, 4000 horsepower flame-throwing funny cars to the startline of Gladstone’s Benaraby Raceway, as well as the 2000hp wheelstanding Nitro Sheriff, which makes a 50,000hp funny car field!
The nitro coupes will be a running over the 304.8 metre distance used by nitro-powered racecars in the USA’s NHRA Series.
“50,000 horsepower is a pretty amazing statistic, isn’t it?” laughed Series Manager Steve Bettes.
“It’s more than horsepower though, these cars are not only extremely powerful and spectacular, they run very consistently and the side-by-side racing makes the racing something special.
“Glenn Williams and all of the committee and volunteers at Benaraby have been exceptional in every aspect and I know they will prepare a great race track for these cars to put down full power passes.”
When asked about the schedule, Bettes and the AONFC management have performed some significant reconnaissance.
“We have moved the schedule forward a little, so the first run for the nitro-powered cars will be at 4:30pm, followed by 6:30pm and 8:30pm. We have people like Paul Shackleton, Glenn Moore and the Peirano family, who know the weather up there very well, so we have tried to work within their advice to put on the best possible show.
Bettes concluded “The majority of teams have set up in town already, so all that’s left to do is get that 50,000hp to the racetrack, from the feedback we have had, it’s going to be a big crowd, you might want to get your spot early!”
