Allen aims for annihilation

Domination of Pro Stock Motorcycle is on Maurice Allen’s mind as he enters the second round of the ANDRA Pro Series for the division on March 24 and 25 at Sydney Dragway.

The Victorian rider of the Milwaukee Tools Suzuki took every point available in the first round of the championship, the Fuchs Australian Nationals, when he top qualified, set low time and top speed and won the event.

The off season work of the team paid dividends immediately.

“I feel lucky going back to Sydney because of the form we’ve got there, we picked up a tenth of a second on our times at the season opener from where we left off last season,” Allen said.

With a brand new engine in the chassis, Allen says the team has the horsepower so long as they can get the motorcycle, capable of accelerating to 300kmh in seven seconds, off the start line well.

“It’s a matter of getting the clutch right and finessing everything a little bit more. We were going in a different direction to where we needed to be and then we stumbled across (the tune up) in Sydney,” he said.

“The data says we are there; we have pretty much got a solid combination.”

The only area Allen has left himself vulnerable has been in reaction times, such as when he came close to losing on a holeshot by Glenn Wooster in the semi-finals of the Fuchs Nationals.

“The reaction times and the 60 feet times (launch) are an area we have been working on,” he said. “We were more concerned about getting the bike from A to B. If we want to dominate this season we need to improve these.”

Allen was also able to reveal he has a new bike on the way from the USA. The debut is likely to be at the Nitro Champs in Sydney for May, with the Pro Series 1000 in Adelaide to be the last hit out for his current ride.

“It’s unbelievable, it has a full carbon fibre body and a brand new chassis,” he said. “It has all the trick bits on it. We’re hoping that will get us into Pro Stock car type numbers.

“At some stage I’m aiming for a six. We’re going to have a damn good crack at it at the Winternationals. With new engines and a new bike it’s a possibility. I don’t know if it’s too early to start that talk but for us it’s the goal.”

Fans heading to Sydney Dragway next weekend for the ANDRA Pro Series will also be able to check out some new interactive displays from Milwaukee Tools in the pits.

“Milwaukee have really stepped up with their support and have some great things happening for us at the track,” Allen said.

“The Milwaukee Pod is an interactive centre that’s been built into a small container and has tool displays, TVs playing with demonstrations, you can try tools out and talk to the reps, take a catalogue home and enjoy a coffee in a professional environment.”

The ANDRA Pro Series featuring Top Doorslammer, Pro Stock, Pro Stock Motorcycle and the Rocket Allstars Racing Series is held on March 24 and 25 at Sydney Dragway.

Qualifying (Saturday) and racing (Sunday) both begin from 10am and tickets cost $35, with two day passes available for just $60.
