Special Announcement: Perth Motorplex Sanctioning Body Preferred Respondent

26 August 2016

Dear Members,As part of our commitment that you receive up-to-date and accurate information about Perth Motorplex, I’m pleased to advise you that the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) has been announced today as the preferred respondent to be the sanctioning body for drag racing competitions following a competitive tender process.

Driver, spectator and staff safety were at the forefront of the decision. Sanctioning bodies play an important role in establishing and overseeing the rules with which a race or event must comply.

ANDRA has been providing drag racing sanctioning services in Australia for more than 40 years. The tender evaluation panel noted that ANDRA’s demonstrated experience and approach to resourcing sanctioning services, drag racing rules, regulations and support, and services to competitors made it the clear choice for Perth Motorplex.

ANDRA has a long and established history in providing sanctioning services at Perth Motorplex and was the sole provider for a 15-year period until December 2015. The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) was approved as an alternative sanctioning body for drag racing events late last year when the previous operator, Kwinana Motorplex Pty Ltd, sought alternative arrangements for selected events.

Following VenuesWest’s commitment to assume the role as Perth Motorplex interim operator from 1 July 2016, we commenced a tender process to appoint a drag racing sanctioning body for Perth Motorplex events.

With the recent appointment of Shane Walsh to the new role of General Manager for Perth Motorplex and this key development in the sanctioning body process, we can move forward with delivering a high quality season of drag racing, burnouts and speedway racing at the venue.

We are hopeful we can swiftly do a deal with ANDRA to finalise the tender process. VenuesWest will work with ANDRA to plan a smooth transition for the venue and for alternatively-licensed drivers. Our first sanctioned drag racing event is scheduled for 2 October 2016, so we have a lot to do in a short period of time and will continue to keep you informed about developments.
