Over 170 enthusiastic racers descended on Sydney Dragway to round out the 2016 ATURA Blacktown NSW Championship season in style on 19th November, with round seven of the Championship bringing the season to a climactic finish.
The Lead up to the event saw nearly 40 degree temperatures making track preparation a challenge; however the Sydney Dragway Team delivered a race track that was world class and delivered some outstanding racing throughout the day.
Super Comp saw a strong field with wide and varied combinations, but it was Andrew Maratos who took home the winners trophy over Domenic Rigoli, who earlier in the day recorded solid six second performances out of his 300 ZX.
Craig’s Automatics Supercharged Outlaws was hotly contested but it was the number one qualifier Andrew Hodgson in his dodge Funny Car who triumphed over Anthony Bool in a close final round.
A large field in Top Sportsman was always going to be tough to top, but it was the young gun Ronnie Palumbo taking the victory over the elder statesman of the class, Joe Sorbello, who broke out trying to hold off his younger counterpart.
Timic Hot Rod Supplies Modified Eliminator saw the number one and two qualifiers meet in the final round which was to be a highly anticipated race between Chris Manks and Graham Elliot. Problems for Manks early in the run handed a relatively easy win to Elliot in the Dragster, taking the victory with a 7.51 on his 7.34 Dial in.
The incoming Super Sedan Champion Michael Little did battle with Jim Denaro in an all NSW Final round, with Denaro the victor on the slimmest of hole shots in his self-built Ford Cortina.
Bikereview.com.au Modified Bike saw a final round that was decided on the start line, with a .023 red light for Robert Simmonds handing the event win to Lorenzo Capogna on the Harley Davidson V-Rod.
Super Street was a double breakout affair with Stan Nikitaras the winner over James Barnes, who could take his runner up finish for the day as consolation to his overall 2016 ATURA Series Championship Win.
J & C Mowers Junior Dragster was another of the final rounds that was decided on the start line with a red light for Josh Leonello handing the win to third generation racer Nicholas Polito.
Other winners for the day included Naomi Lightowler in Super Gas, Wayne Smith in Street fighter, Sean Ricketts in Street Bike and Ezio Cacciotti in Hambster.
