The time has arrived as fans of the National Hot Rod Association gather for the 56th annual March Meet at Famoso Raceway, March 6-9 in Bakersfield, California.
For many competitors, this event is a hobby and a way to celebrate the history of the NHRA. As for others, it’s a way to make a name for themselves. Australian native Steve Easton will once again be making his appearance on the circuit in the newly painted Burn’N Money Hemi Cuda nostalgia funny car out of the Bob Godfrey Racing stable.
“This will be the debut race for the new paint scheme,” said Easton. “Bob Godfrey has made some major improvements to the engine combination and I believe we have everything we need to run in the 5.70’s now.”
Easton has previously competed at this historic Southern California drag strip, racing for Godfrey in the California Hot Rod Reunion in October 2013 as well as competing at multiple events in Australia.
“I’m excited to be racing at Famoso Raceway again,” Easton said. “This is going to be my first time competing at March Meet as a driver. It is a dream come true just to have my name on the entry list.
“This will be the second time driving Bob Godfrey’s funny car and I am still very much a rookie. I have had experience racing Alcohol funny car back home in Australia. I’m very comfortable in Godfrey’s car and I can’t wait for qualifying. Bob has been working very hard at improving the performance of the engine package, so we will have everything we need to get the newly painted Hemi Cuda into the show. The pressure will be on me to perform and I will bring everything I have.”
Round one of qualifying is set forFriday, March 7 at 12:30 p.m. PST, followed by round two at 3:15. Drivers will have a third chance to qualify for the event at 12:30 p.m. on March 8.The first round of eliminations is set for later that day at 3:15. Final eliminations will continue Sunday, March 9, at 11:45 a.m.
