The 52nd Australian Nationals is on the move to Sydney Dragway on February 11th and 12th 2022. This change has been made to ensure the most prestigious event on the Australian Drag Racing calendar has the best formulae for success.
The Nationals are moving from the original dates at Calder Park Raceway due to unavoidable delays in the finalisation of the track re-surface. In a common experience around Australia, the last 18 months have been challenging for the Calder team, and the continuous COVID lockdowns in Victoria have made delivering planned upgrades next to impossible in time for February. Calder will feature on future ANDRA drag racing calendars, and the Australian Nationals will return there in 2023.
The 52nd Australian Nationals will be promoted by Peter Pisalidis with support from Sydney Dragway and the team behind the Australian Top Fuel Championship. The Nationals will be sanctioned as usual by the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA).
The Friday / Saturday event will feature racing for all Championship drag racing categories, including the Australian Drag Racing Championships, the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series, and the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship. All categories will compete for prestigious Gold ANDRA Christmas Trees. Entries and further event details are available at SydneyDragway.com.au.
“The Australian Nationals has a special place in the heart of Australian drag racers, and the show must go on. Holding the 2022 Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway is so exciting for all the right reasons. There is no doubt that this event will get great support in every category. This will guarantee a sensational action-packed experience for race fans and provide a truly national competition for our racers,” Pisalidis said.
“Sydney Dragway is set to provide a fantastic backdrop for the Australian Nationals in February, and we can’t wait to see how this great show comes together under the promotion of Peter with the support of the Australian Top Fuel Championship team. With everything from Australia’s best sportsman racers to Top Doorslammers, Top Fuel Motorcycles and Top Fuel Dragsters, this event will not disappoint!” ANDRA Chief Executive Officer, Brett Stevens, said.
