There’s a wild new Ford Barra-powered Holden Torana almost ready to hit the drag strip in Western Australia.

The McClure family have been a part of the drag racing scene for the better part of three decades, with Al McClure most recently racing a six second supercharged altered. His sons Connor and Bailey both raced in Junior Dragsters.

When Al first started drag racing, it was in a bright green LC Torana. Twelve years ago, he found another LC and put it away in a corner of the shed, waiting for his boys to finish up in junior competition so they would have a car to work on as a family.

Fast forward to last year and Al decided to hang up the boots after 28 seasons of racing, and sold his altered. That freed up time for the family to get to work on building this new beast of a Torana. The radioactive-paint scheme and choice of motor has certainly made the car popular on social media.

“The whole idea of the build was to do it all in house, start to finish,” Connor said.

“We made the choice to go with the modern EFI Barra motor, because the combo is known to be able to make 1200hp easily and it is cost effective with the help from Rob at Monsta Torque. The car has a big HP Powerglide and a floater nine inch. We are aiming to run the car in WA’s stout radial tyre class but will also able to run the car in Top Sportsman or Super Sedan. I will be racing the big meetings and Bailey will be doing test days and Wednesday nights at the Perth Motorplex’s eighth mile drags.”

Appropriately the car will be known as Slime Time 2 – a sequel to the original Slime Time raced by Al. We can’t wait to see this car doing its thing!
