Nitro licences everywhere!

Several drivers are in the process of licencing or have already licenced in nitro drives this weekend including Anthony Begley, Damien Harris and Matt Treasure.

Begley has been signed off for his Funny Car licence after running a 5.30 time at Willowbank Raceway. It was a very impressive pass, recording 3.45/245mph to half track. To give you an idea of how quick that is, Damien Harris recorded a 3.40/250mph on his way to a 4.94/311mph pass at Perth Motorplex in March.

Begley said that the team had been dodging rain but finally got their chance. After a first pass lit the tyres up, the second run felt good. It dropped a cylinder which moved the car around, leading him to shut it down a little early.

“These things with no warning will give a bit of a shudder but then get straight on the tyres, it’s a lot more aggressive as far as that goes,” he said.

Speaking of Harris, he licenced in the Best Tractor Parts dragster with a 4.86 time, despite popping the blower at around three quarter track. Harris said the dragster was quite easy to drive with the steering a lot more direct than a Funny Car.

However he did note that it was an uncomfortable feeling not being able to see the crew working on the motor or starting the car up, something he has got used to having driven Funny Cars for over a decade.

Begley and Harris will be competing against each other in a Funny Car match race in Mackay on November 20.

Also licencing this weekend is Matt Treasure. Today he completed the first part of the licence with a 5.55 second blast, shut down early as per the requirements. Tomorrow at the open test and tune he will be attempting the full track runs needed to get signed off.

We will bring you an update on his progress tomorrow.
