Mopar factory-supported ANDRA drag racing star Lee Bektash has smashed all records en route to a dominating performance Australian Nationals event held at Sydney Dragway on November 1/2.

Bektash’s Dodge Avenger, fitted with a 400 cubic inch Chrysler engine, annihilated ANDRA National Records for both speed and elapsed time with a best terminal speed of 200.14 mph (322.09 kph) and a 6.87-second pass.

“It was literally the perfect weekend for my team, and me we are so happy with what we managed to achieve,” exclaimed Bektash.

Not only did the Mopar team achieve the outright national records, they also were achieved top qualifier honours and claimed the event win.

It was during the first round of eliminations that Bektash recorded the quickest Pro Stock pass in Australian Drag Racing history with a rapid 6.877 ET at 199.85 mph during a solo pass at the iconic Sydney venue.

Round two saw the Dodge Avenger line up against Emilio Spinozzi and Bektash backed up his earlier record setting runs with a 6.911 at 199.11 mph to reach the final.

The final saw Bektash take the win with another six-second pass – this time the team achieved a new record of 200.14 mph for terminal speed.

“I can’t say enough about Bob Book and his business BRE, he is the very best there is,” said Bektash.

“This result is about a lot of things coming together, the right equipment, the right people and don’t get me wrong, we needed all of that to take the win, but without the huge power that this engine is developing, we’d be nowhere!

“I feel pretty overwhelmed at the moment but I’m sure it will sink in. I can’t wait for next season because I know one thing, we will go both quicker and faster again.

“These results are the reason we race and we wouldn’t race at all without all of those that have supported us. This is the way I needed to repay the faith of all my sponsors but in particular, Fiat Chrysler Australia.

“They have been the best organisation I could have ever been associated with, this is a fitting result for both them and us!

“We even had an all Mopar Junior Dragster final with Eden and Mayella locking out first and second place, it was a huge weekend for the brand, it was a sea of Mopar!”

“But this is just the start of big things for us, next season can’t come soon enough!”
