The fourth and final round of the Nitro Magazine South Queensland Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series will hit Benaraby Raceway on Saturday 25th September.

Scott Sorreson is leading the Super Sedan pointsThe new series has taken the sportsman drag racing series by storm in 2010 and local drag racer Scott Sorrensen – leading the Super Sedan bracket heading into this month’s final – is just one of more than 100 racers expected to hit the track next weekend.

The 33 year old electrical tech officer from Gladstone is leading the series following strong performances at each round including wins in Warwick and Roma, to now lead the standings by 14 points.

“It is pretty exciting to be leading the Eighth Mile series heading into the Grand Final at my home track,” said Sorrensen.

“We got into racing this series as we think it’s just a great idea for racers like us – it is all about having fun, close and exciting racing and in a relaxed atmosphere.

“The car and I have certainly responded well to it! And we will be doing everything we can to claim the inaugural Nitro Magazine Eighth Mile Drag Racing Series Super Sedan trophy next weekend!”

The Grand Finale comes after three rounds of racing, starting at Warwick Dragway back in March, followed by round two at Roma in May and Willowbank’s round three in July. The Grand Final will be hosted by each track on a rotational basis year by year.

Special Winner and Runner-Up trophies will be available for each bracket at each round, with the Grand Finals to see a special Winner trophy plus $750 prize money awarded to the highest point scorer of each bracket, and a special Runner-Up trophy and $250 go to the second highest point scorer of each bracket.

Currently leading the series title points are Peter Duffy (Andrews Affordable Mowing Classic), Laurie Fitzgerald (R D Williams Excavator Parts Modified), Jakim Wong (Cosmic Enterprises Junior Dragster), Ken Greenough (H D Bitz Modified Bike), Scott Sorrensen (Allstar Batteries Super Sedan) and Lyn Stewart (John William Auto Sales Super Street).
