A personal best of 3.85/311 mph for Rapisarda Racing has catapulted the Oz team into 12th spot spot at the end of qualifying for the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Chicago.

The result was also a great birthday present for co –tuner Santino Rapisarda who turned 19 today.

Sitting in 10th position going into the final round day of qualifying with a 3.86/309 mph pass, Cory McClenathan wanted to cement his place in the field. On the last qualifier McClenathan blasted down the strip and stopped the timers with a majestic run of 3.85/311 mph. Much to the delight of team owner Santo Rapisarda.

The Cory Mac fan club were delighted to meet their hero in the pits

“We improved on each pass during qualifying and to see a 3.85 on the score board was a thrill not only for me but all the team.” Rapisarda told Drag News Australia. “We held our ground over the four rounds of qualifying and had no problems getting down the track. The car really enjoyed the hot conditions. Any time you can run over 310 miles per hour you know your on fire.”

“Tomorrow we get to race Steve Torrence who has won twice this season and it will be a challenge but that’s what we are here for. To overcome challenges and  win.”
