Stuart Bishop and his Diamond Doorslammer will face off against Sean Mifsud in round one of eliminations for Sydney’s Nitro Champs tomorrow after saving the best til last in qualifying this evening.
Following two difficult qualifying sessions across Friday night and this afternoon, Bishop had the pressure on in the final qualifier to make it into the eight car field from 18 challengers.
With a 6.30 second pass he was able to claim his spot in the eliminations field, and will face off against New South Welshman Mifsud when eliminations kick off at 12noon tomorrow.
“All has gone well in the end, the pressure was on but we saved the best till last,” said a relieved Bishop.
“Everyone has had a lot of difficulty in getting down the track, and this afternoon I lit up the tyres off the startline and shut off at half track, so the pressure was on to make it into the field with one last shot.
“With our 6.30 second pass we got in to number 7, and will face off against Mifsud tomorrow lunch time which will be an interesting first round for us.
“We will be having a look at things tonight and making some changes, but hopefully it will be a good day’s racing and we are all looking forward to getting on track tomorrow for race day.”
West Australian Robin Judd top qualified in the Top Doorslammer field, which saw 18 racers attempting to qualify for the eight car field.
Tomorrow’s Top Doorslammer racing kicks off with round one of eliminations at 12noon followed by the semi-finals at 2.30pm, before the finals for all racing categories get underway from 5.00pm.
