Stuart Bishop and his ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer will take on Robin Judd in round one of the Top Doorslammer eliminations at the Perth Motorplex’s Westernationals this evening after qualifying seventh overnight.
With 15 Top Doorslammers vying for a spot in the eight car field, it was always going to be dramatic, however a 6.079 second pass at 237.46 miles per hour guaranteed the world’s fastest jeweller a spot in the eliminations.
In what will be a battle of East versus West, Queenslander Bishop will take on West Australian Robin Judd at 6.00pm (local Perth time) this evening for round one.
“After Sydney’s rain-out it is great to be about to get down to racing,” said Bishop.
“Robin Judd, as the points leader and championship runner-up of the past two seasons, will be a formidable opponent, but we will be doing everything we can to make it to the end of the quarter mile first.
“The Diamond Doorslammer has been showing great speed in its last outings with two five second passes, so we are really looking forward to getting out there tonight and seeing what we can do.”
Following round one of Top Doorslammer eliminations at 6.00pm, the semi-finals will continue at 8.00pm before the finals at 9.30pm (all local Perth time). Tonight’s racing is round five of the ANDRA Pro Series Top Doorslammer championship, in which Bishop is currently placed sixth.
Also on track for Stuart Bishop Racing today is Junior Dragster driver Cody Grohn in the ‘Junior Jem’, who will complete his third qualifying run this morning before heading to eliminations later today.
