Australia’s Richie Crampton has taken victory in the opening event of the NHRA championship countdown, defeating Doug Kalitta in an all-Kalitta Motorsport final round of the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Maple Grove Raceway.
Crampton’s pass of 3.738 defeated team mate Kalitta’s 3.779, securing his tenth NHRA victory from 13 final round appearances.
“(I’m) so lucky to be a part of this team,” Crampton said. “I hate to race Doug in a final and win it.
“This is big, it’s the business time of the year. We keep talking about how important it is to get round wins and make a run for the championship. I probably didn’t deserve to win the way I have been driving, but hats off to my team.”
More to come…
