Calder Park Street Outlaws rules are pretty simple, drive your street legal machine to the track and race. A beautiful Sunday attracted a large number of keen Street Outlaws joining the regular street car enthuisasts.
The Street Outlaw class itself had an impressive field of racers once again, the benchmark set by Daniel Sharban in round one was eclipsed by Greg Aitken’s Torana, lifting the bar to 9.24 at 147mph.
Igor Radojcic steered his ‘daily driven’ Ford XR6 turbo to third spot, equaling Daniel Sharban’s previous 9.44 benchmark, Radojcic was just one mph off taking that second spot.
Harry Hais and his gorgeous HQ Holden are sitting comfortably is in fourth with a 9.71.
Quenton Fest brought his twin turbo 6.0L Holden LH Torana for its first outing down the quarter mile, running an impressive 10.03 on low boost which placed him seventh. With the addition of more track time we expect to see this LH Torana running some quick numbers and climbing the Street Outlaw ladder as the competition now starts to heat up.
Peter Mahas with his first nine second pass jumped to sixth overall, and man was he happy with the 9.997.
John Inserra aslo went quicker than in round one with a 10.31 leaving the little LJ Torana in eighth spot.
Street Outlaw Motorcycle saw two tough competitors both on Kawasaki ZX14Rs duke it out to claim top spot bragging rights. Leigh Fitzgibbon (pictured above) ran a 9.55, forcing David Carroll to improve his previous best from round one if he wanted to keep top spot. Carroll did so, improving with a 9.54 at an impressive 153mph. Maurice Allen still sits comfortably in third position, resting on his 11.06 from round one of Street Outlaws.
Vincent Stigliano proved who was the boss in Street Outlaw Mod with his 1970 Ford Mustang (another new car) running consistent nine second passes and carding a best of a 9.66, bumping down Dominic Zito’s LJ Torana.
Dominic slid down to third on the list at the hands of his son, Brandon Zito, who bettered his previous time of the car with a 9.77 and now finds himself in the second slot.
The high flying antics of Bill Farrugia’s Cortina saw him touch down in third for Street Outlaws Mod with a 10.31.
Street Outlaws Import failed again to attract a contender, hopefully some of the many registered contenders will show up at the next round on Sunday 24th August.
With qualifying times this close after only two rounds, it will be anyone’s race heading into the Grand Final in December, where a combination of quick elapsed times and killer reactions will decide the winners of the Street Outlaw Series. If you’re not competing, you must be scared!
Outside of the Street Outlaw qualifying there was still much more on track action with the like of Craig Munro’s Pro Street HSV. The Addicted Performance 632ci twin turbo monster punching 2000hp is in the shake down phase and just cruised down for an 8.8 second pass, well off its ultimate potential.
Peter Rallis was also sorting out another turbocharged Pro Street weapon, small children might want to be careful walking in front of this Mustang!
Two stepping Mazda Capella of Paul Saba went 8.72.
Nichele Racing were working on getting the team’s Camaro off the line cleanly after some rear end changes and were successful with some low eight second passes.
Vince Raschella was in the low eights as well with his very tidy Ford Mustang.
