Several changes are to be made to the calendar for the 2012/2013 ANDRA Drag Racing Series season to ease pressure on racers.
Because of the transition to a calendar year, the season has been extended to cover from October 2012 to November 2013, extending it to the equivalent of about one and a half seasons.
Racers have indicated however that this will be difficult to sustain for this season and ANDRA has been working to address these concerns.
As a result there will be several changes made to the season.
The Calder round on November 10 has been cancelled given the one week turn around from the Australian Nationals at Sydney Dragway.
The Top Fuel segments of the two Adelaide 2013 events have been cancelled and the September Adelaide event will now feature Top Doorslammer and Pro Stock.
Extra Pro Stock Motorcycle rounds have been added at the two Calder events for 2013 along with an extra Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship round in Adelaide in September 2013.
New ANDRA CEO Mal Bulley said the calendar presented a challenge for teams, particularly in Top Fuel, making it to so many events.
“The transitional year has presented a number of challenges, these should have been addressed earlier but by going through some pain now we can set about supporting teams through this season and begin planning a complete overhaul for 2014,” he said. “Developing a calendar that is consistent and sensibly timed and located will be the goal.”
ANDRA would like to let teams know that the professional categories will be fully televised and the specifics of the TV schedule will be released soon. Sportsman category finals will also be aired for all events excepting Portland, Alice Springs, Benaraby and Mildura at this stage.
