Ron Capps is one of the world’s most popular and successful drag racers and Australian race fans will have a chance to meet and watch the US superstar at Sydney Dragway’s Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Car Extravaganza November 29, 2014.
The Californian native has a long and distinguished history in nitro racing, after debuting in 1995 racing Top Fuel in Roger Primm’s dragster.
After Capps’ Top Fuel debut, he has been a ‘Funny Car guy’ and that is exactly what he’ll be racing in Sydney.
“I really love racing these cars, they are a passion of mine and they are just so much fun to drive. Racing the NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger for Don Schumacher Racing is a privilege but it’s my job and I have to be as sharp as I possibly can be. In Australia, I can relax a little and have some fun, but I still want to kick some butt,” joked Capps.
Capps continued, “Racing the Aeroflow cars in Australia previously was just a fantastic experience. Graeme Cowin and the whole Rocket Industries team really looked after me and my family, I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel in Sydney.”
With a massive haul of professional drag racing wins, an impressive 40 in nitro funny cars and one in Top Fuel, Capps is looking to add some Australian gold to his impressive tally.
“I want to avenge that final round loss from last time, for sure.
“In my career I have made 82 finals and I’ve won exactly half of those, so I must be due, right?” laughed Capps.
Aeroflow Performance Products CEO Graeme Cowin added, “We’re please to be able to announce that Ron is coming back to race as a part of the Aeroflow show.
“He’s a terrific ambassador for our sport and to have him race one of our cars at our local race track is a great thing for everyone who loves watching the best there is in drag racing.
“We have made some tweaks to the cars and to see Ron Capps in a funny car with header flames up and in full flight is not something you can miss, at least I don’t think so!”
The next round of the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars is Saturday May 24 at Benaraby Raceway, Gladstone Queensland.
