The intensity at next weekend’s Nitro Champs is expected to reach boiling point as the championship pressure mounts for the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship and also the Australian Drag Racing Championship for Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle at what will be the penultimate rounds of their seasons.
The May 5-6 event at Sydney Dragway will host more than 200 racers across a wide variety of categories, headlined by seven 12,000hp + flame-throwing Top Fuel dragsters, nine 3,500hp/400kph Top Doorslammers and seven wild 1500hp+ nitro-powered Top Fuel Motorcycles, as well as Pro Mods and a line-up of Australia’s best sportsman racers.
With this being the second last round in the 2022/2023 title chase for Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle, emotions are guaranteed to be high, especially at the pointy end of the points table.
“The title battles are really exciting right now,” Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship and ADRC promoter, Andy Lopez, said.
“In Top Fuel, up until now Damian Harris has had a good grip on the top, but following our last event in Perth he has former champion Phil Read and reigning champion Peter Xiberras nipping furiously at his heels, and it really could go either way.
“In Top Doorslammer, Kelvin Lyle has a bit of a buffer ahead of his closest rivals after a really strong season to date, but with names like reigning champ Daniel Gregorini and ten-time title winner John Zappia right behind him, there is absolutely no room for complacency.
“In Top Fuel Motorcycle, Rob Cassar also has a bit of a points cushion ahead of Benny Stevens, but what we have seen time and time again is that absolutely anything can happen on these absolutely insane two-wheeled machines, and there is no question that Stevens will be gunning to do all he can to launch a championship attack in this late stage of the game.
In all of these championships, the top racers are all proven winners capable of running at the absolute top of the game and none of them can be counted out for even a second. In fact, these brackets are packed full of quality racers no matter where on the points table you look, which makes for amazing racing every time they head out on the track.
In short, you do not want to miss a second of next weekend’s Nitro Champs.
Lopez added, “Top Fuel, Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle are always show stoppers, but add in a big dose of championship intensity and we have a recipe for absolutely unmissable performances.
“Throw in the fact that on top of all of that there is a full line-up of impressive racers ready to go across the two days, including Pro Mod, and you won’t find better entertainment in Sydney next weekend!”
