Drag racing is full of records and some are more arcane than others. But we’ve been hitting search engines hard to try and find out if Russell Mills’ 5.521 run in qualifying for Pro Alcohol at East Coast Thunder was a world record for front engine dragsters.
So far the quickest we have been able to find was a 5.531 by Tony Bartone in a nitro-fuelled nostalgia dragster.
Mills’ ‘funster’ is a unique combination of dragster and funny car, but runs under the dragster ruleset for Pro Alcohol. Unfortunately the team hurt a rear main bearing and won’t be appearing for eliminations on Saturday, but not before they could run the awesome personal best time.
We are more than happy to be corrected if we can find a better FED ET than what Mills ran today and it would certainly take nothing away from the pass. But we would love to be able to say – WORLD RECORD!
