Round 4 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series comes to Warwick Dragway this weekend (November 28-29) marking the first time the eighth-mile drag strip has hosted a National Championship event.
In a boost to the region and the racetrack, the Southern Downs Regional Council recently committed over $17,000 towards upgrades and sponsorship of the event to promote the Southern Downs and ensure the event becomes a fixture on the calendar alongside the VW Nationals and Dragfest.
Brassall racer Paul Doeblien is no stranger to the track and this weekend will compete in the Modified bracket. The 2015 Winternationals Runner Up says the event is great for the region but also local Queensland competitors chasing Series points.
“I think this is going to be a great event for Warwick Dragway and the region, it is also very important for any Queenslanders chasing National points,” he said.
“Hopefully the racers, track and the region get a lot of exposure with the Speedweek TV coverage.
“Warwick Dragway are always improving their facilities, the traction is good and the small track atmosphere is second to none. Even if we don’t get the win l am sure we will have a great weekend in Warwick.
“It’s a tough call to say this event will rival the VW Nationals and Dragfest but given time I am sure this will become the premier event at Warwick Dragway.”
Round 4 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series will feature a strong local contingent of Queensland racers alongside competitors from as far as Victoria and South Australia.
Qualifying is scheduled from 10am-6pm on Saturday November 28 with cover band Back in Business performing from 6:30pm. Racing commences from 10am on Sunday November 29 with finals scheduled for approximately 3pm.
