Supercharged Outlaws competitor Jake Donnelly and his DBS Motorsports team are on the verge of some big changes as they ready their 57 Chev for Round 4 of the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at Willowbank Raceway on Saturday (April 11).

The Tamborine-based operation has some big plans this year as Jake’s dad Jason steps up to race in Top Doorslammer at the Fuchs Winternationals over the Queens Birthday long weekend in June, while Jake himself is preparing for a bracket change of his own.

“There are a few changes taking place within our team DBS Motorsports with the 57 Nomad almost ready to hit the track again with my dad, Jason (Donnelly), at the wheel for the Winternationals competing in the Top Doorslammer bracket,” said Donnelly junior.

“And I am looking at stepping up shortly with a change of class on the horizon.”

An announcement regarding the switch will be forthcoming but for now Donnelly junior will be among the legion of local racers on Saturday as the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series comes to Willowbank Raceway for the first time this season.

The event marks the first opportunity for many local Queensland racers to rack up points in a short championship chase with the season set to end back at Willowbank with the Fuchs Winternationals on June 4-7, 2015.

Runner up at the 2014 Winternationals, Donnelly knows what it takes to go rounds at his home track and will look to maximise the two local opportunities either side of a trip to the Nitro Champs in Sydney to make an impact in the standings.

“This is my first national race for the year,” Donnelly added. “(I’m) very keen to get back behind the butterflies, it’s been too long between skids.

“I’m guessing that it will be another tight championship, Supercharged Outlaws has a lot of tough competitors and everyone will be trying to take the crown.

“We are planning to go the Nitros and are hoping for a good result at either event to put us in contention for the championship again, fingers crossed.”

The Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series at Willowbank Raceway commences with qualifying from 9:30am with eliminations from approximately 4pm (be sure to check the schedule on the Willowbank Raceway website).
