Double duty for Ben Bray

Former Top Doorslammer champion Ben Bray’s driving services aren’t just in demand in the Team Bray outfit, with the 28 year old spending plenty of time this season driving the Karl Hammoud-owned Factory Xtreme Toyota.

Bray took the car all the way to the win at the recent Nitro Champs in Sydney and wouldn’t mind another at the Fuchs Winternationals.

“With the Factory Xtreme deal Karl and Tina Hammoud have only this season taken ownership of the car and I have been helping Karl to get his own licence and in return they have been letting me drive the car on race week ends,” he said.

Hammoud said the experience of Bray had been valuable as he came to grips with the 2000 horsepower, six second race car.

“It has been great having Ben to teach me how to get a handle on the car, I am about 60% through getting my own racing licence but I am by no means in the position to drive at Ben’s level,” he said. “After the success we had at the Nitro Champs we had a family discussion about should I finish getting my licence or leave Ben in the car and have a go at winning the championship.

“My family’s unanimous decision was to leave Ben in the car and have a red hot go at the championship.”

Bray’s own Sidchrome Top Doorslammer has had a bunch of new parts arrive from the USA and stands a chance of reaching fourth in the championship.

“I am really looking forward to pealing her ears back during the four qualifying sessions on Saturday and Sunday,” he said. “We would have liked to have a few test runs before the week end but unfortunately in the last week or so Willowbank has had quite a lot of rain.”

The Fuchs Winternationals takes place on June 8-11 at Willowbank Raceway near Ipswich, Queensland. The full ANDRA drag racing experience will be on show including all pro categories and the best sportsman racers in the nation taking part in the Rocket Allstars Racing Series.
