Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association President, Jay Jukes is set to be strapped into a drag car for the first time in four years this Friday night at Hidden Valley Drag Strip, but this time he will be a passenger. Jukes last competed in July 2007 in a Holden Commodore, his personal best being 11.20 seconds at 128mph.
This Friday he gets strapped into the passenger seat of the Supercharged Outlaw of Peter Coles at the final Beat the Heat Off Street event for 2011. Powered by a 451 cubic inch supercharged V8, the COSTALOT Holden Torana is capable of low 7 second passes at 200mph and is sure to give Jukes a wild ride.
“Peter Coles has been trying to convince Jay for a few weeks to get in the passenger seat but Jay has just been flat out with the running of the race meetings all year, and unfortunately just didn’t have time to make this happen” said HVDRA Vice President Clive Mainland.
“Peter was adamant he was going to get Jay in the car, otherwise it was going to be packed away for the year. Jay has put a lot into the sport of drag racing in Darwin and all on a voluntary basis. It will be a good opportunity for him to get a short taste of the sport he has helped to evolve, and finally get to try out the new track he was instrumental in bringing about.”
The only question now is whether Jukes will get the bug to go back racing.
