After a successful inaugural season, the second running of Dragway at The Bend’s Summit Racing Equipment Track Championship will launch into action later this month with the first of five championship rounds to be held on August 31.

Lisa Sherry will be on-track to defend her championship

As well as a full complement of sportsman brackets, spectators – of which there is expected to be many with tickets selling well ahead of the event – will also be treated to match racing from Nitro MAX funny cars, In A Frenzy and Nitro Thunder.

“We want to see a huge contingent of local and interstate racers at this event and taking part in our second Summit Racing Equipment Track Championship at what is Australia’s quickest and fastest drag strip,” Dragway at The Bend Marketing and Sponsorship Manager, Vladimir Ostashkevich said.

“Our Summit Racing Equipment Track Championship events are for the racers; this is their event, and we want to see full fields here with us racing and representing the sport in the best way possible in front of what is expected to be a good crowd on August 31.

“These events are all about the racers and there has been a lot of investment into this motorsport facility to give our competitors the best opportunities for performance as possible, and also from valued sponsors like Summit Racing Equipment to create championships like this, and we need the support of the racers to keep these events going.

“So, act now and get your entry in for round one – I promise you, this is going to be a great event!”

Lisa Sherry is one racer who already has her entry in and is planning a full assault on the 2024/2025 Summit Racing Equipment Track Championship at Dragway at The Bend.

“As defending track champions, we are very keen to come and defend the title – in my class of Super Sedan, it is insanely hard, there are so many tough competitors and it always comes down to the wire. For example, the last track championship here went all the way down to the last run of the last meeting – that is how cutthroat Super Sedan is,” Sherry said.

“As well as the fierce competition, with the variety of cars you see in sportsman racing, I think it offers something way more inclusive, and while it is budget friendly, you still need mental grit to go DYO bracket racing, you still need that competitive drive, and that is what I think makes it so great.

“I think the variety also really delivers for the spectators as well – they see everything from old school racing machines through to the more modern turbos and so on, so there is something for everyone.

“I want to see as many competitors turning out as possible – the track is second to none. Of course, we know it is the quickest and fastest in the country and records get smashed, but personal records are also getting smashed – we have run so many PBs there and every time we go out we find a bit more and a bit more.

“The track surface is immaculate and the facility is amazing, I really encourage all racers to get involved and help us put on the best show possible both for round one, and for the series overall.”

Round one of the five-event Summit Racing Equipment Track Championship at Dragway at The Bend will be held on August 31, ahead of further race dates in November, January, February, and March. The February event will also double as a round of the 2024/2025 ANDRA Regional Sportsman Championship.
