The Lights Out phenomenon shifted to Sydney Dragway venue bringing in several thousand spectators to witness drag racing striped to its bare bones.
Jeff Lutz with his US Drag Week winning “Evil Twin” ’57 was again the star attraction along with Street Outlaw’s TV show star “Doc”.
Both racers were swamped by fans all night long.
Lutz and the fan were left shattered though when the ’57 lived up to its evil ways punching out a couple of rods on its first burnout. Never the less racing went on and Lutz had more time to spend with more fans wanting selfies.
Doc checked out Justin Simpson’s nitrous HG.
Apart from Lutz much of the promotion was centred around Po Tung’s call out to Gerry Sarafoglou with the loser coughing up $5k for the Westmead Children’s Hospital – and paying for the post event BBQ.
This generous move kick started a charity drive which raised over $7000 with event sponsor Haltech throwing in $1000 and Doc also donating several US hundred dollar bills.
Sarafoglou unfortunately toasted a converter in a warm up grudge race defaulting on the race, meaning he was the one having to dig deep – but was honoured to contribute to the cause.
The start line crowd which is a feature of the Lights Out events was strictly controlled between runs – though certainly added to the event atmosphere.
No matter your persuasion Lights Out had it covered, whether it be blower, nitrous or turbo – V8, four, six or Rotary.
The Doc looks impressed by Mark Hayes’ serious nitrous purge here. Lutz wanted to take the car home.
A freshened up Mincer also made an appearance.
Frank ‘Mr Heli’ Cannistra won plenty of fans with his RX3’s antics.
Alex Cirtoski called out Tung for the final race of the night. The sport compact dual was a cracker with Cirtoski in the Skyline just edging out the Supra.
Lutz also experienced burnouts Australian style and could not believe the insanity.
Sweet video compilation from the night.
