Race fans have been enthralled this evening at a special open night held at the Oceania College of Technology to welcome four international drag racing stars all the way from Puerto Rico.

The all-star racers have arrived in Australia for the 27th running of what is the world’s largest sport compact drag racing event – the Honeywell Garrett Jamboree, presented by Tuners Edge and Link ECU. The event will be held this weekend – August 26 and 27 – at Willowbank Raceway.

At the Archerfield venue, all four-star drivers and their world-beating vehicles were on-show with fans enjoying speeches, a ribbon cutting and autograph and photo opportunities with the teams.

The visiting racing group is made up of the Mech-Tech 2JZ-powered Scion, the third quickest import car in the world; the Loquito Killer 20B-powered Mazda RX8, which is the second quickest 20B Rotary in the world; the El Humilde 2JZ-powered Toyota Corolla AE86, the world’s Fastest ¾ Chassis Car; and the Rafaelito Racing 13B-powered Mazda RX8 – the world’s quickest 13B Rotary-engine vehicle. These impressive drag racing cars will be driven by Isaias Rojas, Edwin Burgos, Jorge Juarbe and Luis Rivera respectively.

Carlos A. Ruiz Martinez is the spokesperson for the travelling racers and owns the ‘El Humilde’ 2JZ-powered Toyota Corolla AE86.

“Everyone who has travelled from Puerto Rico for this event is very excited to get racing this weekend at Willowbank Raceway,” Martinez said.

“All of the racers have enjoyed meeting the fans tonight at the Oceania College of Technology. As the sponsor of our tour, the College are great supporters of ours and this has been a great event.

“Now, it is time to get down to the business of racing – it will be a great event and we can’t wait to take on the Aussie racers and hopefully bring home some wins and some records.”

“We really can’t thank the College enough for their support of our event as the naming rights sponsor of the Puerto Rican teams tour – tonight has been a brilliant opening for event week.

“This year will mark the 27th anniversary of what is the largest sport compact drag racing event on the planet.
