Steven Ham and the East Coast Lubes team took the opportunity to use the New Years Rocket All Stars round at Willowbank Raceway as a test session for upcoming Pro Series events.
Hot and sticky conditions proved challenging for the entire Competition Eliminator field which led some wild racing throughout the day. After qualifying the team sat in 5th qualifying spot with a shaky 6.04 second time. However this run provided team with valuable data with a new fuel system and engine components on the car, with this data the team was able to improve to a 5.93 second run that took the first round win over the red lighting A/Dragster of Tony Bellert.
After servicing the car the team moved on to take on Peter Zelow in another A/Dragster combination. The start line played into the hands of Steven Ham again with a huge holeshot win, with another improving time of 5.89 seconds giving the team some more valuable data for the final round against Greg Leahy.
The final was set to be a close race, however after some severe tire shake the blower belt broke and allowed Leahy to drive away with a 7.02 second win over the Funny Cars 6.32. The days testing provided the TSP team with some valuable engine data for the upcoming Pro Series round in Adelaide, giving driver Steven Ham some well needed confidence.
“We were very happy with how the engine behaved throughout the weekend with no damage whatsoever. Our team worked well together and we turned the car around fast. Certainly a successful weekend for the team,” said Ham.
After going rounds in the Rocket All Stars Series, the team will debut a new AA/A in Sydney on the 24th and 25th of March ahead of the 1000ft Pro Series round in Adelaide.
