Following the recent news of Ford pulling out of John Force Racing comes another blow for the 15 time champ with the announcement Castrol will also exit at the end of 2014.
A statement was released by Castrol effectively ending what will be a 29 year long sponsorship association.
“John Force has been the ultimate ambassador for the Castrol brand and we are grateful for his passion and dedication,” said Rich Pond, head of US marketing for Castrol, “but after twenty-nine successful years, we have decided to pursue new ways to engage with our consumers and customers, while still celebrating the superiority of Castrol motor oils.”
While this will only directly affect John’s funny car and Brittany’s dragster with other team cars secured under other major sponsors, it will remain to be seen what the future holds for JFR and it is a mighty blow for the NHRA seeing two major sponsors walk away from the sport in a short space of time.
One would not think it be too difficult for someone of John Force’s stature to pick up another sponsor but he may see this as the apt time to hang up that helmet for good, stay tuned.
