After consultation with Australia’s Nitro Funny Car advocates recently in Sydney, it has now confirmed, the overdue appearance of Drag Racing’s most unpredictable creatures will now be unveiled at Sydney Dragway on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday August 1.
That’s right – two awesome days of Fuel Coupe fun and games!
In strong support of this event, this two-day showdown will also serve as the vital first round of the 2010-11 Sydney Dragway Track Championship for all categories to wage warfare down the Eastern Creek based quarter mile.
So why the change in date for the floppers?
“We had a meeting with various stakeholders in Funny Car, and after deep discussion, it was agreed that there would be insufficient cars that were able to turn up on the July 4 (the first suggested date) and that an alternative date was needed to ensure the strongest rollup of entries at what is an important developmental event for the category and sport,” remarked Sydney Dragway MD Tony Beuk.
“I do want to make it clear on this point, we want strong numbers and encourage the active growth and development of the Nitro Funny Car product. It gives Sydney Dragway another feature product to develop into the longer term and provide a strong arrowhead to further expose Sydney Drag Racers in front of good crowds in Australia’s biggest and most demanding market.”

A strong entry list of participants is expected for this two-day showcase and more specific information will be detailed soon.
