On not much more than a weeks notice the Might Car Mods Nationals were conceived and run at Sydney Dragway last weekend in front of a very healthy crowd.
Following the demise of the Top Gear Festival, the Might Car Mods boys – a Youtube TV show sensation – decided all will not be lost and approached Sydney Dragway to host the inaugural Mighty Car Mods Nationals as a replacement for Top Gear.
The event was put together with little over a weeks notice for entrants and spectators, yet still managed to draw 200 racers and thousands of fans as is the cult following the Mighty Car Mod team have on Facebook and Youtube – and a perfect example of the power and reach of social media.
Hosts Marty and Moog revved up the crowd before racing with their Top Gear-esque comedy styling – complete with “mechanical Stig” – and other festivities like drifting displays and fire ups from Mark Mariani’s Top Fuel dragster kept the punters entertained throughout the day.
Such was the success of the event on such short notice it looks like becoming a yearly fixture, and with more time to promote the next one it could become one massive event.
